Bike & Build NC2SD

So last year, and now this year Bike & Build has a trip that comes into San Diego from North Carolina.  Since I live here I always try to help out anyway I can.  Amanda and I chalked the route to the beach for them as well as had a "unofficial" Bike & Build party at my house.  Basically, I felt like our trip needed more of an ending.  After being with that many people for so long, and going through so much you really need closure.  So I throw a party for them so they can all talk, hang out, and see each other one last time before everyone goes their own way.  This years group was great and everyone even chipped in for food and drink, which isn't cheap when your talking about 30 Bike & Builders, and I think I even have extra money that I'm going to donate right back to the organization.  The other good thing is that the party actually kept up with the mission of the whole trip, "To spread the word about affordable housing issues" My neighbors and friends came over and were very interested in the whole thing, (mostly dropped jaws when they were told that they rode a bike across country) and one kid that lives next door said he might even do it next year!

Another thing I noticed is how well organized and official Bike & Build has become, they have added a new trip every year and I heard they are even moving into their very own office in Philadelphia.  They have more rules and structure for every aspect of the trip and it's something that needed to happen.  Back in Bike & Builds infancy it was basically a free for all.  Raise your money and once you leave, your gone, get to where your going anyway you can.  It was fun for us but it also caused a lot of unnecessary angst for leaders and riders.  So all the changes I've seen have been great and I'm proud of all the people putting in so much work to make it so successful.  As of 2007 trips they have donated $1,114,000 to affordable housing groups!!  Thats so great!

Anyway, here are some pictures of this years group at the beach they have been thinking about all summer long, 3,600 miles!

RIDE ON!

I just got the new iPhone software and downloaded a new application that let's me blog right from my phone, so here it is, a test. It's also supposed to get my location and I'll post a picture later to see how it works.
